Stuart Sachs creates art from the building materials of modern society and from it's detritus. Steel I beams, trees felled by hurricanes, bronze, stone and glass are transformed into lyrical objects that comment on gesture and performance. The viewer is sometimes called into the work as a collaborator. Stuart is very involved in Historic Preservation and Community development in Newburgh and the region as President of the Newburgh Landmarks Conservancy and Board member of the Orange County Arts Council, The Fullerton Center and the Calvert Vaux Preservation Association. He is a Professor of Fine Art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
