Luke Ives Pontifell founded Thornwillow Press 30 years ago when he was 16 and still at school. Over the course of the past decades he has grown the company into one of the leading private presses in the United States. 10 years ago with his wife Savine, they consolidated their operations in a complex of 19th Century brick factory buildings in Newburgh, NY. There they have put together an extraordinary collection of historic printing and bookbinding equipment and practice the related arts and crafts of the written word. Over the years Thornwillow has printed and published original books by Walter Cronkite, John Updike, Edmund Morris and James Merrill among many others and their work is in the permanent collections of The White House, The Morgan Library, The British Library, Vassar College, Harvard University and The Vatican.
